S C O T L A N D : I O N AThe Abbey on IonaThis abbey on Iona -- possibly first built by St. Columba after he founded the first Christian church there in A.D. 563 -- has been restored very nicely. (Even if it has become something of a spot for hawking tourist trinkets.) To the right is the graveyard of Scottish monarchs, including Duncan and Macbeth, and in the distance on the right can be seen the pink granite of the island of Mull.
