Thistle under saddle

Well, he's back at home and looking good.
I got up last night to see where he's at.
A few issues with the bit, but so solid.

He's developed nicely. Sometimes he looks like a giant Welsh pony and sometimes the Belgian comes through.
Darn winter coming on. There won't be so many pictures because the flash ones don't work so well.

I know trained to saddle, but for the first time up I'm going to be a bit cautious. He stood perfectly still for mounting when I finally swung over and up.
Not throwing his head at the bit (this time). I just found his itchy area under the mane and he was happy.

Walking on. He's really got some reach with that hind end. We had to work out our signals. First he was reacting a bit severely to the bit, then he figured out what my legs and reins were telling him and our communication got better.
I left the reins pretty loose so he had no excuse for tossing his head. At least I felt I could trust him that much. He pulled toward his friends every once in a while, but I was firm and he stopped trying.

Very comfy and a smooth ride. Definite potential to be a couch type horse.
Moving into the trot he was more worried with his head.

At the walk he relaxed into the bridle, so he's not that bothered by it.
Easy trot. No leaping into it, but fairly responsive and more forward after we'd done it a couple of times.

And back to a nice walk. Still worried about that bit. I'll try a different one next time and see about his teeth.
So, does he look like a little Belgian or a big Welsh?
