ETHELRED died 23 APR 1016 in London, England, at 47 years of age. His body was interred in St.Paul's Cathedral, London, England.
He married twice. He married Elflaed about 985. Elflaed was the daughter of Thored and unknown. Elflaed died 1003. He married Emma "The Flower of Normandy". Emma was the daughter of Richard I "The Fearless" 3rd Duke of Normandy and Gunnor deCREPON. Emma died 1052.
It was in ETHELRED II's reign that the battle of Maldon (celebrated in the poem, and in the lay The Homecoming of Beorhtnoth Beorhthelm's Son by J.R.R. Tolkien) took place in 991. King of England 978-1016; deposed by the Danes 1013; restored 1014 on the death of King Sweyn Forkbeard.

of Godwin and Gytha of Denmark. Edith died 18 DEC 1075 in Winchester. Her body was interred in Westminster Abbey.
