Nero Fox Hunting
Pictures from a couple of different hunts.
We've been whipping in this year.

Waiting at the trailer to be bridled. We typically trailer out in the hound trailer with Thistle and the hounds.

A little trot around before we headed out.
Coming in from the lower road.

Watching the hounds.
I rode out with Chris on the black mare that day. That's Chrissie hunting on Thuy.

Keeping up with the hounds as they moved on toward the trailers.
Walking in to the trailers. Nero understands what happens out hunting now.

At Bedrock waiting to go out.
Watching the hounds as we head to our post on the East side of the property.
It you look very hard, you'll see Nero and I going through a gate in the distance. Nero's gone out on his own a few times now. He's not thrilled to be on his own, but we pass the time watching for hounds and do an occasional trot circle to keep him entertained (and I've taken to carrying sugar to reward him for helping me get gates without getting off).
Coming back in to the trailers. He can get anxious away from all his buddies, but his anxious means a head toss or some pawing. The first few times we had to stay at a gate while we watched the huntsman and field canter/gallop off, I wasn't sure what to expect. He wasn't asleep to them leaving, but he obligingly turned around and went back to standing at our post.
I don't trust Nero like I trust Thuy, but I hate to say that in many ways he's an easier hunt horse. Thuy has much more a mind of his own, which means he keeps us safe, but sometimes it's more work to get him to listen to my instructions.
